HIGH POST GOLF DAY

July 21st, 2010

High Post Golf Club was the setting on Wednesday May 19th for the Salisbury & South Wilts Sports Club’s Golf Challenge Day.

Being run by South Wilts Cricket Club, the previous two events had proved a successful way of raising funds for the Salisbury & South Wilts Sports Club Clubhouse Project, and with Rob Wade receiving excellent help from Bill Moulding and his book of business contacts, this year promised a best yet profit!

In fact the proceeds from the day were around the £5000 mark with several sizeable donations appearing too, so an overwhelming success for all concerned..

A total of 23 teams participated in the golf itself with a raffle and auction taking place in the evening; all contributing to the excellent success story. Organiser Rob Wade said “We had a terrific reaction to the fund-raising rally cry - 23 teams, hole sponsors and a great list of auction items. The fact we got good weather as well just set everything off nicely.”

FUNDRAISING FOR NEW CLUBHOUSE

November 16th, 2009

It is going to be a challenge for the sports club to raise the seven figure sum necessary to build the new clubhouse. The committee is in discussion with a number of significant fund providers, but these are unlikely to provide the money necessary, and we members must therefore make a significant contribution ourselves if the project is to succeed.

Any ideas for fundraising are welcome. It would be better to fund raise outside of the existing membership, because we members will be having to provide money anyway! An idea for fundraising would be to host an event and charge a fee, such as: a jumble sale, a fete or a bingo evening. Other ideas could be a sport or beer festival, a golf day, a coffee morning, a bring and buy sale, car boot sale, a sponsored event such as hair shaving or parachuting, a swear box, a summer ball, a wine tasting, a barbecue, a concert, a quiz night, a raffle, a skittles event, a 100 club (or thousand club), or just ask people to donate (such as other clubs played against), etc etc

If there is anyone out there who might be willing to consider being a fundraising coordinator, please do not hesitate to contact a committee member or Peter Curtis himself.

FUND RAISING

September 30th, 2009

Following the successful planning outcome for the proposed new clubhouse, the main effort is now being directed towards securing the funds required. As a result, we are now in discussion with England Hockey, the Football Foundation and Sport England who will hopefully each provide significant sums towards the seven figure build cost.

PLANNING APPLICATION COMMITTEE HEARING

August 24th, 2009

The sport’s club planning application for a new clubhouse and enabling houses is to be heard by the Southern Area Planning Committee on Thursday 27 August at 6.00pm. The venue is the Alamein Suite in the City Hall. We cannot be sure our application will be heard first as there will be other cases to be voted on, but the meeting commences at 6 o’clock – BE THERE!

It is vital we have as many supporters of the application as possible because, although the audience is not allowed to speak, clapping or hissing is not able to be stopped which would influence the committee made up of our councillors. These councillors are our elected representatives and should wish to follow any majority opinion if they want to get elected again! The councillors are human and inevitably will be “helped”  in their vote by seeing how seriously people consider an application, by how many people turn up at the meeting.

Please make every effort to attend to help all the work put in so far pay off. Bring a friend, a relative, another club member, anyone you can think of. If you cannot attend, make sure you let other people know of the meeting. Hopefully our application will be approved, but it is very likely conditions will be attached, and if we can minimise these that would reduce costs and/or onerous responsibilities.
